I wrote a picture book and came to New York with a list of potential publishers. I called everyone on the list, asking for an appointment.
Golden Books published that first picture book, “Stevie’s Tricycle.” They also published “Tommy’s New Bed,” my second picture book.

I like being in a character’s head and being surprised by something they do. Suddenly there it is written, totally unexpected.
It is so real to me that I forget I made up the character.
